SK Gaming did make it to the ESWC, but instead their female team showed the flag.Could you please in
Could you please introduce yourself to the audience?Next time SK Gaming will be in the spot light is at Game Gune were the male department of SK Gaming will be competing.
My name is Stephanie Harvey, my alias is missHarvey and I'm from Quebec City, Canada.
My name is Jane Wie and my alias is Jane and I'm from West Virginia.
My name is Christine Chi, my alias is Potter and I'm from Dallas, Texas and I'm 20 years old.
My name is Mel Gribben, I play under the name Cupcake and I'm from Canada.
My name is Alice Lew, I'm from California and I play under the name Ali.
So, how did the competition go and how happy are you at the moment?
Potter: we're very very happy. I think we did wonderfully. I wouldn't have expected anything less from these girs and myself. We've been practising so hard through the last, God, I don't know, it's been so long and we just looked forward to these events and all of these girls have worked their butts of and we're finally here, we've got the first place and I don't know ... I don't know how I can explain this feeling. It's good.
Two years ago, you won the competition, last year you didn't. Did you come here with a feeling of revenge this year?
Potter: I wasn't a part of the 2005 line-up but Alice is the only remaining GXG member but last year, I was here as staff and we were disappointed with our results in 2006 but the only thing you can do is pickup and go. So, that's the way we left off and make it better and I think this year we've gotten our revenge and proved ourselves we're worthy of this title.
After the recent years, do you think the general skill is on level of the competition for CS women and did the skill get higher?
Potter: this only my second event as a female tournament. I got a few male tournaments but I'm not sure, our skill level is pretty high, so I don't want to make the other female teams look any worse and us any better. I don't know... I can't really answer that question. I'm sorry.
How did the final game vs. enhonor go? which map did you choose?
Potter: To be honest, as a team, now that the tournament is over, inferno is our worst map, we are not very good on it. I think we pulled together, we did an amazing job on CT, we were down 5-0. I mean they won pistol and every other round after that. we made an amazing comeback on CT side, I think it was 9-5 and they got the last and it was 9-6 and from there, we were just on fire. As far as Dust 2 goes, that's one of our main maps, if you noticed we have an amazing teamwork, so that's one of the maps we're very really confident in, but I'm proud of the Inferno match as well.
During the first round of the competition yesterday, you beat Ehonor already. Was it helpful and how?
Potter: It was. Playing a team in the finals that we've already played in group stage, it was a little of a confidence booster for us because we had beaten them before. The score was 19-11, it was on de_nuke and we were up 8-7 and we started CT side first, so on that map, a lot of teams do take it as a CT sided map but for us it means it is a T sided map, so we knew we had it in the bag at the half. We were all telling each other: We have it! We have it!, because our T side is so strong on Nuke. You noticed that from last year, too, versus Souls our first map was like 16-3 as well, so our T side Nuke is pretty unstoppable, so it was a really good match and we knew we're gonna win and we knew we were here for first place only and nothing less, so going into the match, we were as confident as ever.
So, now you won the title again, are you going to keep playing? What will be the next achievement?
Potter: We will see, we don't know exactly, were our way will lead, but I mean we're all satisfied with this win and I think we all need a break after a huge, long practice, I mean literally, we've practiced 5 days a week, 5 hours a day for the past, possibly 6 months, maybe longer, I mean, we've been playing non-stop and I mean all these girls have lives, so for the next few weeks, we'll take it easy, we're gonna go home and rest. But expect us to see us back on the scene in no time.
After your break, do you already have an objective in mind?
I mean, SK has been nothing but good to us. They sent us to an American event, and I think that our skill level is up to the male level. And I don't want to just take my team to female only tournaments. I think we did really well at that male tournament. Everyone was really close. My next goal would be to make a name for female gaming, not just this team, but female gamers in general. I think that female gamers aren't up to that skill-level yet, but there's a positive future for it. So hopefully we can make our mark and make our name in that as well.
We saw you winning the first map today, was it hard to stay focused when you started the second map, inferno?
No, actually. I think we were more not focused in groupstage, where it was more quiet, not as loud and less pressure. And on the stage we were actually more focused and more in our game. I don't know how the other girls feel, but I think that we each did our own level of play. And it was amazing. I don't think that we weren't focused, I think that we were very focused.
So, you knew when you came here that btb were playing at home, did you have any particiular feeling about that?
We played vs. btb with either 26-4 or 24-6, I don't remember exactly. Maybe they were having a bad they, I don't know. It's intimidating coming into an event looking for revenge, we knew that we were going to win either way. I myself didn't know exactly the level of play btb was on. They won last year, but we never got to play them last year.
Are you going to play CS:S?
That's a tough question, before I joined SK gaming I played for a Source team, and I didn't think source was a terrible game. I just think that a lot of players didn't give it a chance. If source does take over 1.6 or if 1.6 dies, or ESWC doesn't have 1.6 next year, we will have to see what happens.
Our main focus was just this event, to win this event. I don't think any of us has actually thought about what we will do after this event. Now we will discuss what the future looks like. But as far as now, we are just satisfied with this first place. And, we will see where it goes from here.
We saw recently that SK-gaming is opening more and more game sections, like World of Warcraft, does it make a change for you in the team?
That's a tough question, I don't think we are so concerned about that at this time, and like I said we have been focusing mainly on this event. In the past, and I'm sure in the future, to any other team, any game that decides to join SK-gaming, they have been nothing but good to us, it's been a blessing to play under their name, their tag and their sponsors. Whatever happens in the future, and I don't know, but we will see.
You say proudly that you think that your level is up to the males level, what do you think about the overall level of the male and the female tournament?
The comparison of a male tournament and a female tournament, it's not comparable. I don't think that many female teams can honestly say they are up to male professional gaming teams. And I am being as confident as I can, but I do really think we are at that level. It's not compareable. There will always be arguments about the female gamers and the male gamers, and I am not going to get into that argument, because I'm such a womens rights person, I just think it's the ratio, after a few years, hopefully we see the female gaming community grow as much as the male community is right now, and it is growing every day. Hopefully the ratio will be the same and we don't have to compare us, we can just call eachother a gamer.
What do you think about Russian team Megapolis, and what do you know about Russia at all?
It's an interesting question, as I said we were bootcamping in Europe for a week. We had an interesting run, a lot of the European girl teams trying to sneak in scrims with us, or I'm sorry, Practice Clan Wars, PCW's. Versus us, so we went into so many scrims, and these teams were girl teams, and they were trying to pretend that they were another team, and we would play them and it would end up being a girl team. We did actually play Megapolis, and what do I think about them? I think they are beautiful, they are well, gamers. We all have to stick together.
